UNSW Student Energy Chapter: Shaping the Future Clean Energy Workforce

UNSW Digital Grid Futures Institute (DGFI) is proud to announce the launch of Australia's first Student Energy Chapter!

The energy transition presents a complex challenge requiring a diverse workforce with a wide range of skills. In response to this growing need, DGFI issued a call to arms among students across all faculties with a goal to inspire a new generation of energy leaders.

Australia's first Student Energy Chapter has now been established at UNSW in response to this call. Bringing together students from all faculties, Student Energy aims to foster a deeper understanding of the energy landscape and empower students to make meaningful contributions to the transition to a sustainable energy future.

Why is this important?

The global transition to clean energy demands a diverse and skilled workforce. Student Energy provides a unique platform for UNSW students to:

  • Gain energy literacy: Develop a deep understanding of the complexities of the energy landscape and the crucial role of renewables.
  • Develop valuable skills: Build expertise across various disciplines relevant to the clean energy sector, from engineering and science to law, business, and computer science.
  • Network with industry professionals and build connections that can propel future careers in the clean energy sector.
  • Become changemakers: Advocate for sustainable policies and contribute to a just and equitable energy transition.

Student-Led Initiative, Industry-Focused Impact

The UNSW Student Energy Chapter is entirely student-run, led by a passionate and diverse executive team. They are committed to fostering a community where students from all backgrounds can learn, collaborate, and contribute to a sustainable future.

Launching in O week of Term 3, Student Energy UNSW have an ambitious recruitment campaign, with Co-President Angela Le, third year Commerce student, introduced the chapter to Members of Parliament at the ‘Powered by UNSW’ showcase in August.

What are the benefits for industry?

  • Early access to top talent: Connect with highly motivated students eager to enter the clean energy sector.
  • Diverse skillsets: Engage with students from a variety of disciplines, ensuring a well-rounded workforce for complex energy challenges. By engaging with Student Energy, you won’t only have access to Engineering students but also those across Law, Business, Science, Arts, and more.
  • Future-proofed workforce: Invest in the development of the next generation of clean energy leaders.
